Plans to reduce aircraft noise
People living in and around Castle Donington are being told they should hear less noise from Nottingham East Midlands Airport in the near future.

The Civil Aviation Authority has agreed to extend airspace around the site, allowing planes to be diverted around major towns and villages.

The move is expected to be welcomed by residents who have been at loggerheads with airport managers about the issue.

Environment Manager Neil Robinson said the difference should be felt soon.

"In practical terms what it means is, there'll be a number of changes to the aircraft departure and arrival routings.

"What we're very pleased about is that we've been able to design most of those changes so that aircraft will be higher, quieter, and fly over fewer people."
