Hi-tech solution to dog fouling
New cameras are being installed in Nottingham to catch dog owners who let their pets foul the streets.

Dog walkers will face fines of up to 1,000 if they are caught on camera failing to clean up after their dogs.

The city council has spent 12,000 on the new miniature cameras, which will be hidden at dog mess black spots in Nottingham.

In the past the authority has used private detectives, then undercover wardens to track down offenders.

Inconspicuous devices

Because the cameras are so small - three inches long - they are inconspicuous and can be moved between locations.

Two digital cameras costing 6,000 have been installed, but if they are successful, the authority will consider buying more.

Cllr Brian Grocock said: "I'm a dog owner and I think it's my responsibility... to clean up after my dogs.

"I don't accept excuses from anybody - a small plastic bag in your pocket is no great detriment."
