The city council said the colour scheme was too garish |
The owners of one of Nottingham's oldest pubs have won their battle over a controversial paint job. Last year the city council told brewers Hardy and Hansons to change the bright frontage of the Bell Inn because it did not match surrounding buildings.
But a planning inspector has backed the pub's appeal against councillors and allowed the yellow to stay.
In June, the grade II-listed pub won a conservation award from English Heritage who praised the paintwork.
Jonathan Webster from Hardys and Hansons said: "The whole thing could have been dealt with without going through appeals and so on.
"We have met on site on more than one occasion and agreed on one or two changes, but we were at a sticking point on the colour.
"The planning inspector felt it was a sympathetic treatment of an old building and actually enhanced the character."
