The properties have been approved for demolition

The Pleasley Hill area in Notts was used in an adaptation of DH Lawrence's novel starring Sarah Lancashire in 2003.

Mansfield District Council is going to demolish most of the terraced houses.

But Susan Sarazen, who lives in the area and was an extra on the film, said the historic houses should be saved.

"Our roots are here and a lot of people do not want to leave, but now are going to be chucked out and it is not fair.

"They are going to evict everybody.

"It does have a bad reputation from years ago but times have changed and people have moved on.

"Despite what people say the houses have been keep in pretty good repair, they may need some work but they are sound."

She said publicity from the film has led to an increase in the number of visitors to Lawrence's roots in Nottinghamshire.

The demolition of about 180 houses - many used for colliery workers in the past - has been approved by the council, which is now looking for a developer.

The council says almost a third of properties are empty and difficult to let.
