Bid to save ChildLine call centre
People in Derbyshire are being asked to try to save a call centre which helps abused and bullied children.

ChildLine wants to close its centre in Nottingham at the end of September, making 12 paid counsellors redundant.

The charity says it will reopen with volunteers, but no location has been chosen yet.

The centre takes around 300 calls a day from youngsters, and supporters will be collecting signatures on a protest petition in Derby on Saturday.

Campaigner Pauline Budzynski said a lot of children need the service.

She said: "Any young person up to the age of 18, who's being bullied at school, who may be suicidal, who's being abused physically and sexually - those children have nobody else to turn to."

The centre is one of ChildLine's biggest centres outside of London.

The charity was set up in 1986 by celebrity Esther Rantzen.
