Cutbacks cause ChildLine protest

ChildLine volunteers are considering leaving in protest at cutbacks at the centre in Nottingham.

Last week the centre's future was assured, but with the loss of 10 jobs. Managers say a funding crisis left them with no alternative to the cutbacks.

The number of supervisors has more than halved and some volunteers say this could mean a weakened service for children who need their help.

A protest against the cuts was held in the city centre at the weekend.

Managers have said there will be as little impact on front line services as possible.

The Nottingham centre deals with 300 phone calls a day from youngsters wanting help and advice.

It is one of ChildLine's biggest centres outside of London.

The charity was set up in 1986 by celebrity Esther Rantzen.
