'Informers' offered cash reward
Graffiti
A 500 reward is being offered for reporting graffiti vandals
People who "name and shame" graffiti vandals in Nottingham are being offered a 500 cash reward.

Nottingham City Council is launching a scheme which gives money to informers if the suspect is charged.

Graffiti "tags" are names or patterns written on public walls or buildings, often with spray paint or wide felt-tip markers.

Nottinghamshire Police say officers can often recognise the offender by the tags they use.

It is believed that just a few offenders are responsible for most of the graffiti in Nottingham.

The council says 120,000 a year is spent removing graffiti in the city.

The reward scheme was launched by the government before Christmas and is being rolled out to various cities around the UK.

People can ring Crimestoppers and report the name of a suspect.

If that person is arrested and charged, a 500 reward can be collected by the caller.
