Post office branch escapes axe
A post office in part of Nottingham has won a reprieve from closure.

Post Office Limited has gone back on its proposal to close the Carlton Hill branch after six weeks of consultation.

In Mansfield alone eight out of 22 offices will shut in April and in Greater Nottingham 13 out of 50 are expected to close.

In a statement, the Post Office emphasised that Carlton Hill's future survival is dependant on the number of customers using it.

Good services

The news was welcomed by campaigners and customers alike, who felt the branch was an enormously valuable asset.

Richard Ward, chairman of Postwatch Midlands, said: "This is a post office that deserves to be retained.

"It is in our view a very viable proposition, it is very much at the centre of the social and economic life of the area.

"It has good services to offer, it has good shops around it and there is every reason for it to remain open."
