Former addict backs rehab centre
A reformed drug dealer wants to turn a derelict Nottinghamshire hall into a rehabilitation centre.

Calvin Madin, 37, a former user and dealer who spent over a year in rehabilitation, wants community support for the residential centre at Ollerton Hall.

The hall was owned by the Sue Ryder charity, but has fallen into disuse.

It is now owned by Newark and Sherwood District Council.

Lovely grounds

Mr Madin, who visits schools telling youngsters about the problems caused by drugs, wants to raise 1m for the project.

He hopes the National Lottery and the East Midlands Development Agency will support the scheme.

"It is a fantastic location with access countywide with lovely grounds."

Some residents of Ollerton said they were not pleased with the idea.

"Our village is quiet and I am not sure I would want to live near it," one resident said told BBC Radio Nottingham.

Nottingham Drug and Alcohol Action team spokesperson Kate Davies supports the project.

"We need options for treatment across the county, including residential care."
