Five get football banning orders

Five people in Northamptonshire have received football banning orders after disturbances at Kettering's home game against Telford in April last year.

One Kettering supporter has been given an eight-year banning order, another received one of six years and three others were given three-year bans.

In the west of the county, one Northampton Town fan is currently subject to a banning order.

Police said they would not hesitate to punish anyone found guilty of disorder.

There were major disturbances before and after Kettering Town's match against Telford United in April.

Three men from the Kettering area, seven from Shropshire and one from Birmingham were arrested.

Supt Richard James, of Northamptonshire Police, said: "The banning orders demonstrate quite clearly that we will not tolerate football-related violence, disorder or anti-social behaviour at matches.

"We will deal robustly with anyone intent on causing trouble and will be monitoring CCTV and gathering intelligence as part of our operation."
