Plans for a �25m redevelopment of the Silverstone circuit have alarmed residents of the nearby village. Locals in the village of Silverstone, Northants, have expressed their concern at the scale of the plans to upgrade the track and surrounding land.
Members of the British Racing Drivers' Club who own the track, have backed the scheme, which could help secure the future of the British Grand Prix.
Residents said the proposals would impact on the village's infrastructure.
David Crowther, Silverstone parish councillor, told BBC News: "We're obviously worried about the impact that it will have on Silverstone village.
"It's a small village of about 800 dwellings, just under 2000 people.
"We would be very worried about the impact it would have on the infrastructure of the village, which we feel has probably grown to about as large as it actually can manage."
Silverstone's contract to host the British Grand Prix expires in 2009, and improvements have been planned to see the contract extended beyond this date.
The scheme includes new grandstands, pit and paddock facilities, a science park, manufacturers test centre, hotel and conference centre and new homes.
