Crime levels in Northamptonshire have fallen beyond the national average drop in crime, new figures have shown. Northants Police revealed a 3.1% drop in crime between 2006-2007. New statistics show crime across England and Wales fell 2%.
Over the year, the force invested in a dedicated patrol car and van, used as fast response vehicles for reports of street robbery and violence.
Robberies decreased 3%, violence fell 3.6% and sexual offences fell 8.7%.
The county also saw decreases in house burglary by 4.3% and motor vehicle theft, down 5.7%.
The force said identifying hotspots for street crimes in Northampton town, linked to youth culture and anti-social behaviour, had led to interaction with youths and ensured offences were disrupted.
