Drop in crime across the county
Crime has fallen across Northants for the fourth successive year, new figures have revealed.

There has been a 3.1% drop in crime between April 2006 and March 2007, Northamptonshire Police said.

Most categories of crime countywide have fallen too, including house burglary (down 4.3%), robbery (down 3%) and sexual offences (down 8.7%).

The county also saw decreases in violence (down 3.6%) and theft of motor vehicles (down 5.7%).

Northamptonshire's Assistant Chief Constable Alan Featherstone said: "Tremendous efforts have been made by officers and staff throughout the Force working closely with our partners, which has resulted in a fall in crime year on year since 2003.

"However we must not be complacent and everyone has a responsibility to help keep crime down in the county.

"One of the areas where there has been an increase is theft from motor vehicles - this could so easily be prevented by people removing valuables from vehicles."
