80-year-old in fatal crash named
An 80-year-old man who died in a collision after driving the wrong way down the M1 motorway on Christmas night has been named as Leslie Schraer.

Mr Schraer drove a Renault Scenic onto the motorway in Northants going south on a northbound carriageway.

The car was involved in two minor collisions between junction 17 and the Watford Gap Services.

Near junction 16 the car was involved in a fatal collision. Police said the dead man came from Stanmore, Middlesex.

The incident happened at about 1900 GMT on Saturday.

A woman involved in the third crash suffered a broken wrist and ankle and was treated at Northampton General Hospital.

The carriageway was closed until after midnight.
