Cold shoulder for Christmas crime
A crack down on Christmas crime is set to start on Monday in Northamptonshire.

More officers will be on the beat as part of Operation Winter, aiming to freeze out the criminals across East Northamptonshire in the festive period.

Historically Raunds, Rushden, Higham Ferrers and Irthlingborough see a big increase in shoplifting, car offences and violent crime at this time of year.

A police spokesman said was becoming regarded almost as a 'usual' occurrence at this time of year.

Through the Pubwatch scheme and the retail radio link, officers are hoping to limit any increase.

Members of the public will also be reminded to give offenders the cold shoulder by making sure they protect themselves and their property.

PC Nick Price said: "Any criminals who are considering visiting East Northants to commit crime are being warned they will get a very icy reception."
