Bogus workers attack 98-year-old
A 98-year-old Northampton man was treated for shock and kept in hospital after two robbers tricked their way into his home and assaulted him.

The two men knocked on his door in Welford Road at 1.45pm on Tuesday and told him there was a problem with the water supply at a neighbour's house.

They got inside and physically restrained him while demanding cash.

They searched the house before leaving the man deeply shocked. He was later taken to Northampton General Hospital.

Northamptonshire Police say it is not known if anything was taken but witnesses saw three people leaving the scene in a red car.

Callous and cowardly

They believe the two men who called at the house are white, in their mid 20s and muscular.

They both had short, light-coloured hair and were wearing light coloured crew neck jumpers and light coloured trousers.

A Northampton community safety spokesman said: "It is hard to imagine that two young men needed to use force in order to steal from a man of 98.

"It is both callous and cowardly and anyone who thinks they know who is responsible should have no hesitation in letting the police know."
