Proposed sand quarry meeting
Plans to double the size of a proposed sand and gravel quarry in Northampton will be discussed at a public meeting.

Northants County Council's revised draft minerals plan shows a rise in extraction levels in the Nene Valley from four to seven million tonnes.

County councillor Brian Binley said: "The size and nature of the (proposed) excavation will desecrate our valley for years to come."

The public meeting is due to be held at Cogenhoe Village Hall on Tuesday.

The Minerals Local Plan submitted in 1996 proposed extraction over an area of 260 hectares.

But the revised plans could cover more than 400 hectares from Earls Barton bridge to the edge of Cogenhoe.

A public inquiry is due to take place in March 2005.
