Scheme for safer routes to school
Zebra crossing
New zebra crossings are among the proposals
Parents and residents are being invited to have their say on a set of proposals to boost safety at three schools.

Plans are in place to introduce safer routes to Lumbertubs Primary, Billing Brook School and St Mary's Roman Catholic Primary, all in Northampton.

Jim Wade, county council cabinet member for roads, said: "We want to make sure any child cycling or walking to school has as safe a journey as possible."

The plans were drawn up following consultation with the schools.

Proposals for St Mary's Roman Catholic Primary include a raised zebra crossing, round-top humps and a new mini roundabout, all on Woodside Way.

A public exhibition showing the options will be held at the school on 12 July.

For Lumbertubs Primary and Billing Brook School, two new zebra crossings and speed cushions on Tonmead Road and a mini roundabout on Billing Brook Road are proposed and plans will be on display on 13 July at Lumbertubs Primary.

Depending on the schemes selected, work could take place this winter at an estimated cost of about 70,000.
