A new curfew is to be imposed on teenagers in an area of Northampton for the next three months. From Monday police will use a dispersal order to clamp down on anti-social behaviour across the northern part of the Rectory Farm area of the town.
Under 16s found loitering will be taken home to their parents by officers while anyone acting in an anti-social manner - adult or juvenile - will be moved on.
The move follows increased reports of nuisance behaviour and criminal damage.
The order will run for three months and will include Crowthorp Road, Collyweston Road, Pilton Close and Jasmine Road up to Great Billing Way.
Extension plan
Officers will be patrolling the streets and have the power to move on any group of two or more people who are acting in an anti-social manner.
Details of the order - which could run for up to six months is problems continue - were being posted in the area this week.
Sgt Sharan Wildman said officers had been working with councillors and the local MP to find solution to residents' concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour.
"We sincerely hope this helps to improve the quality of life for the local community," she said.
Liz Tavener, Northampton Borough Council's cabinet member for community safety, added: "I am pleased to support Northamptonshire Police in their very prompt use of the new laws at our disposal in Rectory Farm.
"The council is totally committed to a zero tolerance policy of anti-social behaviour and will actively work towards a safer environment throughout the town".
