Former mining site to be reused
Coal miners by a coal pit head
Gascoigne Wood was part of the Selby complex of mines
The biggest coal producer in the country has been given the go-ahead to develop a former mining site in Yorkshire, creating hundreds of jobs.

UK Coal said it had secured consent to retain an extensive range of buildings at Gascoigne Wood, which was part of the Selby complex of mines.

An amenity block, workshops, stores and a covered stockyard will be reused.

The site will be used for office accommodation, warehousing and distribution, the firm said.

Chief executive Jon Lloyd said: "We very much welcome this decision and the recognition of the importance of maintaining an established rail-connected site.

"We are very confident that we will attract occupiers who will take maximum benefit of the superb rail connections."
