Dog owners told to restrain pets
Road in Yorkshire Dales
New laws have opened more of the Dales to the public
Dog owners visiting the Dales are being asked to keep their pets on leads.

The National Park Authority says it is necessary to protect lambs and ground- nesting birds over the next few months.

Right-to-roam legislation, which came into force last May, has opened up huge areas of the Dales which were previously out of bounds.

Much of this land is home to ground- nesting birds like the skylark, red grouse, curlew and lapwing. Farmers also use it for grazing sheep.

Park rangers are reminding people that, under the new law, all dogs must be on a lead.
