Royal Ascot race plans used again
Racing at York
About 38,000 people are expected on both Friday and Saturday
Special traffic measures introduced for Royal Ascot last month are to be used again for this week's races at York.

The John Smiths' meeting on Friday and Saturday is always one of the busiest York meetings of the year.

Once again, the only approach to the Knavesmire will be by the A64 and all cars leaving the main car park after the racing will have to turn left.

Officials said lessons learned from June should enable them to draw up a traffic plan for all future meetings.

Parking restrictions

Some parts of the Royal Ascot at York traffic plan will not be used this week.

There will be no temporary parking restrictions on Tadcaster Road, Church Lane or Bishopthorpe Road.

"Before Ascot, we promised that we would consult with local residents and businesses to see how we could improve the traffic system," said Bill Woolley from City of York Council.

"The timing of the John Smith's meeting hasn't allowed us to do this yet.

"But we still want to see how we can improve things for York race meetings and find out which bits of the plan we keep and which we want to scrap or change."
