Residents consulted over traffic

Council officials want to ease heavy congestion during racing meets
People are being asked for their views on how traffic should be tackled in York during the city's race meetings.

City transport chiefs said residents' opinions would play a significant role in shaping future traffic arrangements.

Officers are collating statistics from the recent Royal Ascot and Ebor races to see what lessons can be learned to create a draft plan for future events.

Following the public consultation, it is hoped the new traffic proposals will be available by the end of the year.

Affected residents

Head of City of York Council's network management Peter Evely said they were pleased with the traffic arrangements at Ebor but needed to ensure future plans suited everyone.

"It's really important that we find out how the traffic plan affected residents and whether they felt the changes we made were beneficial or not," he said.

"Once we have all the information in we will be able to work with the racecourse and the emergency services to create a draft plan that can be used for all race meetings."

Residents and local businesses have until 16 September to email their views and comments to [email protected].
