Group to nominate new Archbishop
Dr David Hope, Archbishop of York
Dr Hope has been Archbishop of York since 1995
The process of nominating the successor to Dr David Hope as the next Archbishop of York has taken a step forward.

Six people from the region have been elected to represent the Diocese of York on the Crown Nominations Commission.

The group will submit the names of candidates they believe are suitable for the post to the prime minister.

Dr Hope announced his resignation from the role in August and is due start work as a parish priest in February.

Meeting date

The representatives from the Diocese of York will join six other people elected by the Church of England's General Synod and the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Members of the public are invited to contribute their views about possible successors at a meeting at Bishopthorpe Palace, York, at 1830 GMT on Thursday, 11 November.
