Another 16 midwives are to be employed by the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust. All the new student midwives are to be recruited from the University of East Anglia (UEA).
In July the trust confirmed new funding had been secured for six UEA student midwives to start in mid-August.
Another 10 from the course are also being offered posts which will be funded from existing budgets. They will start work in mid-September.
The 10 students are the first to have undertaken the UEA's direct entry midwifery course and have been studying to become midwives for the past three years
The other six midwives were formerly nurses and have completed their 18-month midwifery degree. All 16 have undertaken clinical training at the university hospital.
Staff at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital deliver more than 5,000 babies a year and 191 midwives are currently employed by the trust.
