Two leading broadcasters will be honoured by the University of East Anglia (UEA) for their contribution to the cultural life of the country.

Sir David Attenborough and Lord Melvyn Bragg will be awarded honorary degrees at the Norwich-based university from 12-15 July.

Sir David Attenborough, whose career has spanned five decades, is best known for programmes like The Living Planet.

Lord Bragg has presented the South Bank Show since 1974.

Both men will be awarded Honorary Doctor of Science degrees for encouraging debate on the mysteries of science and the history of ideas.

UEA registrar and secretary Brian Summers said: "Each year the university honours individuals - and sometimes organisations - who have made a real difference.

"Each has made a significant contribution in their field. The honorary degrees are designed to recognise their efforts."
