Financial crisis hits UEA courses
Financial problems at two departments of the University of East Anglia could lead to cuts.

Students have been told the final intake for the drama course will be in September while the other area under threat is the language, linguistics and translation (LLT) department.

The university's Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Edward Acton said both could be closed down by 2007.

He said they had been subsidised by other areas of the UEA for years.

Professor Acton added that every effort had been made to reduce the departments' financial losses but without success.

The proposals still have to be ratified by the University Council.

A spokeswoman for the University of East Anglia said overall the UEA is in a healthy financial situation.

The Students' Union was planning to hold a series of meetings with students this week.
