Staffing shortage hits hospital
Wells Cottage Hospital
The hospital could be turned into a specialist care facility
A cottage hospital forced to close by a shortage of qualified staff cannot reopen because the problem remains. A number of protests have been made since the hospital at Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk, stopped treating in-patients last month.

Diana Clarke, chair of Norwich Primary Care Trust (NPCT), which runs the unit, said not enough staff were available.

But she agreed to meet the campaigners again next week. The hospital is still open to day procedures.

The board of the NPCT meets again on 10 February.

Ms Clarke said in a statement: "The report in February will detail the concerns I have about patient safety at the unit and the concerns about staffing.

"It will detail actions that I believe will need to be taken by the trust and the local community to ensure a thorough and objective view on the options available to us."
