Top flight soccer boosts economy
Canaries players and fans
Two more wins could see Norwich City in the Premier League
Premiership promotion for Norwich City Football Club could boost Norfolk's economy by 50m, according to a man who has seen its effects in Suffolk.

Promotion looks more likely after the win against Reading on Easter Monday.

Ipswich Borough Council chief executive James Hehir said publicity generated by Ipswich's promotion was a huge benefit.

"Premier League football is probably one of the most in-demand sporting services across the world now. It is international," he said.

"The publicity is probably a factor of five or 10 to one compared to the Nationwide League.

Controversial goal

"Wherever you go Premier League football is always being shown, which is great."

A controversial goal by Phil Mulryne in the 85th minute saw off the Reading side.

The ball bounced off referee Neale Barry inside the penalty area and fell to Mulryne, who lobbed keeper Jamie Ashdown to win the game.

Norwich manager Nigel Worthington said the incident was unfortunate but it had not been intentional.

"I have to admit the referee's done well for us," he said.

It moved Norwich back top of the table, two points clear of West Brom who dropped two points against Millwall.

The Canaries could clinch promotion by winning their next two games.
