First windfarm turbine completed
turbine construction platform
Earlier the bases of the turbines were sunk into the seabed
The first turbine in the 75m Scroby Sands windfarm scheme off the Norfolk coast has been completed.

The three sails of the first tower off Great Yarmouth were put in place on Saturday morning.

The operation to winch it into place started in the early hours of the day. It will take up to five months before all the turbines are in place.

Then there will be a month of testing before the windfarm can start generating electricity.

The scheme should generate enough electricity to supply around 41,000 homes.

Jonathan Smith, a spokesman for Powergen, said: "We're on schedule but hope the weather stays calm as we need several days to complete each turbine.

"It's like building a massive model. Each unit of the turbine, tower and sails fits together."
