Foundations for three of the turbines were unloaded at Great Yarmouth docks over the weekend.

Each steel pile is 50 metres long and weighs 200 tonnes.

The foundations will be prepared in the port before being taken out to sea later this month.

Developer Powergen is to build the �78m windfarm at Scroby Sands.

The original plan was for 39 turbines but that figure has since been reduced to 30.

The windfarm was approved by the government in April 2002 to provide power for 50,000 homes.

It is part of the government's plan to triple the amount of energy generated from renewable sources by 2010.

Project manager Andy Hilton said it would not be long before the offshore installation begins.

He said: "This is the first physical sign of the turbines arriving in Great Yarmouth.

"We are looking forward to more deliveries in the coming month to start installation at the end of October."

The 100-metre turbines will be built on a sandbank in the North Sea.
