The body of a sperm whale has been washed ashore on the East Anglian coast.

Wildlife experts believe that the 60 foot whale, which was washed up at Thornham, Norfolk, died after getting lost at sea.

They say the carcass will probably be washed out to sea again and vanish.

On Saturday coastguards warned people trying to see the carcass to be wary when walking across the sands.

The dead whale was initially spotted off Holme, Norfolk, earlier this week then it was buffeted by the tides to nearby Thornham.

Early last year the body of a female sperm whale became lodged on sands at the mouth of the river Great Ouse near King's Lynn.
