About 300 jobs could be lost at the Bromborough base

Union leaders have been in talks with bosses at a Wirral meat factory over the potential loss of 300 jobs.

Tulip Ltd, which produces pork and sliced meat products, announced it was to close its plant in Riverview Road, Bromborough, earlier this year.

A spokesman for the company, which includes Danepak, Stagg and Plumrose, said there was "no viable alternative".

But unions have put forward a business proposal to expand the plant and hope to meet with bosses again next week.

Unite's Franny Joyce said the proposals would involve some capital expenditure from Tulip.

He said the plan involves expanding the plant, meaning the meat would not only be sliced on the site but prepared there as well.
