The 11-year-old was shot as he walked home from football practice |
Detectives hunting the killer of Rhys Jones have bailed two youths held on suspicion of firearms offences. Rhys, 11, was shot dead as he walked home from football practice in Croxteth Park, Liverpool, in August.
The pair, an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old from Croxteth, have been rearrested on firearms offences. They were first held by police in November.
Eighteen people have been held on suspicion of murder or conspiracy to murder but no-one has been charged.
Detectives are investigating a theory that the bullet was fired by a teenage gang member aiming for a rival.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Detectives investigating the murder of Rhys Jones in Croxteth on Wednesday 22 August have rearrested two males from Croxteth in connection with firearms offences."
The pair have been bailed pending further inquires.
"The two males were arrested and have been taken to police stations on Merseyside where they will be questioned," the spokesman added.
