 Nine train stations are to get improved facilities |
Railway stations across Merseyside are to get more than �1m of investment to help upgrade access facilities for people with disabilities. Nine stations across the region are in line for improvements following a joint funding initiative by Merseytravel and the Department for Transport (DfT).
New facilities will include non-slip surfaces for ramps, automatic doors and variable-height ticket counters.
The schemes will all be completed by March 2008, said Merseytravel.
A total of �1.1m is to be set aside for the upgrades to be carried out at Bank Hall, Birkenhead Park, Bootle Oriel Road and Brunswick stations.
Hall Road, James Street, Leasowe, Rice Lane and Walton stations will also have facilities improved.
Neil Scales, chief executive and director general of Merseytravel, said: "Our aim is to create an single integrated public transport network that is accessible to everyone."
