Hearse used in drink-drive push
Cheshire police drink-drive launch
Police in the North West are running a co-ordinated campaign
A hearse is being used by police in the North West to warn motorists of the dangers of drink-driving.

Posters show a funeral car, police car, ambulance and taxi with the question "Who will be taking you home tonight?"

Forces across the region hope the stark message will persuade motorists not to drive while drunk or on drugs.

Cheshire Assistant Chief Constable David Baines said a person's decision to drive while impaired was "often the last decision they made".

Mr Baines said officers are enforcing a rigorous testing campaign for drink and drugs.

He added: "Last year this area was in the top five nationally for the number of tests carried out and we aim to do even more this year.

"The message should be clear if you take the risk you stand a very good chance of being stopped, arrested and prosecuted, don't choose the hearse, the ambulance or the police car."

Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and Cheshire police are taking part in the co-ordinated Christmas campaign.
