Mr Fitch said the presentations were not for the faint-hearted |
A paramedic from Kent is to fly to Germany to talk to troops about the risks of drink-driving while on leave over Christmas. The idea came after the Army detected an increase in the number of road crashes involving soldiers on leave.
Geoff Fitch, from Folkestone, will join former Cleveland police officer Mick Bennett, to talk to 4,000 soldiers.
Mr Fitch said the presentations were designed to make soldiers realise they were not invincible.
"The Army is hoping that by putting on these presentations, which are not for the faint-hearted, the soldiers will think twice before they get behind the wheel of a car over Christmas," he added.
Mr Fitch and Mr Bennett, PR manager for the Cleveland Safety Camera Partnership, will be talking to the soldiers about the medical impacts a crash could have on the body and dealing with accidents first hand.
The pair will fly to Germany on 26 November and bases in Herford, Osnabruck, Hohne, Paderborn and Rhinedalen.
