Liverpool is hosting a major annual conference about urban regeneration, which will be attended by hundreds of delegates from across Europe. The URBACT conference is being held at St George's Hall on Monday and Tuesday.
It will bring together more than 250 professionals, including civil servants, community representatives and administrators, from 45 cities.
URBACT is a European Commission initiative involving cities sharing experiences about a variety of issues.
These include urban regeneration, young people and immigrants.
European cities involved include the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Hungary, Cyprus and Latvia.
Speakers at the conferences include Mike Storey, leader of Liverpool City Council, and Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council.
Delegates will have the opportunity to tour Liverpool city centre and see examples of recent regeneration projects, including the Paradise Project and schemes on the waterfront.
Councillor Storey said: "Liverpool is aiming to be a premier European city, so it is very important that we share experiences with partners from throughout the whole of the continent.
"We have an opportunity not only to learn of their experiences of urban regeneration, but to showcase the successes we have had using European funding."
A reception for conference delegates, hosted by the Lord Mayor, councillor Alan Dean, will be held in the World Museum on Tuesday.
