Liverpool's bus passengers bid farewell to Paradise Street bus station, which closed after the last bus on Saturday. The former station is being demolished by developers Grosvenor, to make way for new leisure and retail development.
Instead passengers will use the new Paradise Street Interchange, which opened on Sunday.
The opening of the interchange marks the first phase of the 920m Grosvenor regeneration project, which will transform a portion of the city centre.
'Step forward'
Each of its 10 bus stops - five each side - are designed to take up to 20 departures an hour.
It will be served by the services that used the old Paradise Street Bus Station, including those going to Garston, Speke, Halewood, Netherley and Runcorn, Bootle, Walton, Fazakerley and Sheil Road.
It will also be a key departure and arrival point on the route of Merseytram.
"It is a huge step forward for public transport in Liverpool," said Councillor Mark Dowd, chairman of Merseytravel.
