Liverpool Council say preparations for 2008 are going well |
A clock will start counting down 1,000 days until Liverpool becomes European Capital of Culture on Wednesday. The official countdown will be beamed on to the Radio City tower and will be visible from many parts of the city.
Other countdown clocks will appear on the BBC Big Screen, the Capital of Culture offices and in Victoria Street.
Liverpool City council said preparations for the 2008 event were going well. It announced 4.5m for arts groups last week.
"The pieces of the jigsaw are really coming together in our cultural preparations, and there's so much to look forward to over the next 1,000 days," said Professor Drummond Bone, chairman of the Liverpool Culture Company, and vice chancellor at the University of Liverpool.
"I'm really exited that the countdown starts here - to one of the most important years in Liverpool's history."
The city officially becomes the European Capital of Culture on 1 January, 2008.
