Cathedral plans for 10m revamp
Liverpool's Anglican cathedral
The plans aim to make the Cathedral more welcoming
Liverpool Cathedral is hoping to raise 10m to carry out renovations in time for the 2008 Capital of Culture year.

The Cathedral Development Campaign is hoping to raise enough funds to carry out restructuring work and improve facilities for its visitors.

Plans for the 100-year-old building include landscaping the approach and entrance way to welcome worshippers in.

The Cathedral Development Campaign, which is launched on Tuesday, also wants to attract more young people.

Dean of Liverpool, Rt Rev Rupert Hoare, said: "No cathedral or church can afford to stand still.

"We have got to re-engage with the wider community, especially young people, and develop the tradition that put Liverpool Cathedral at the heart of the community.

"We have got to grow as a spiritual and cultural centre as the city prepares for 2008 and, above all, make sure we are fully equipped to serve the region through the next century."

The campiagn aims to raise the money through individual donations, public funding and the business sector.
