A teenager is in a critical condition after an accident on a trampoline. Kenny Beck, 19, from Liverpool, fell awkwardly while playing on a trampoline in a friend's back garden on Friday, severing his spinal cord.
Mr Beck's family fear the talented artist may never walk again or even be able to draw.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) said such incidents were on the increase and urged people to think before buying a trampoline.
It is understood Mr Beck fell after performing a backflip.
His aunt, Joanne Martin, told BBC News that Mr Beck has had surgery on the top of his spine at Warrington Hospital.
"His mum's distraught, she hasn't left his bedside," she said.
RoSPA spokesman, Roger Vincent, said: "We know of at least four serious accidents this year involving trampolines."
He added there had been a 50% increase in these type of accidents over a five-year-period.
"You should not be trying to do somersaults at home. If you want to try out the more difficult stunts then you should attend a local gym club," he said.
The RoSPA's guidelines for people who want to use trampolines safely can be found on its website.
