Tilting train hits buffers again
Lime Street station, Liverpool
An investigation is under way into the accident
Rail passengers are facing delays after a Virgin train hit the buffers at Liverpool's Lime Street Station for the second time in a week.

The Pendolino train hit the buffers at platform seven, at lunchtime on Tuesday. It is not thought that anyone was hurt.

The platform remained closed at the station, with delays expected throughout the day.

A Pendolino hit the buffers at the station on Friday.

Passengers were treated for minor injuries and two went to hospital after they fell in the collision.

Low speed

Subsequent safety checks found that the rails at Lime Street were in good condition.

Network Rail said that the train involved in Tuesday's accident was travelling at low speed.

Virgin's Pendolino tilting trains were officially launched last month. They can travel at 140 mph and cost 11m each.

However, there was embarrassment when the first Pendolino to leave Glasgow travelled just 28 miles (45km) before a fault forced its 80 passengers to disembark at Carlisle.
