It is proposed the trams will run from Liverpool's waterfront |
Members of the public are to be asked about their views on the second stage of the proposed Merseytram network. The first stage - the 225m Line One - is expected to be given the green light later this year.
Line One will go through Tuebrook towards Kirkby from the city centre and should be completed by 2007.
Line Two is a proposed 15km route between the city and Whiston Hospital. The public consultation gives details of the 200m Line Two scheme.
A Merseytravel spokesperson said: "We expect to be given approval for Line One before the end of this year so we must continue the momentum.
'Government confidence'
"There are a number of options available along the route of Line Two and we intend to fully consult with as many people as possible before making a final decision.
"The government has already shown confidence in Merseytram by pledging 170m towards the cost of Line One. We have no doubt that our plans for Line Two will be equally favourably received."
He added the aim of the tram network would be to provide an integrated public transport system for the city.
It is hoped Line Two will carry up to 10m passengers a year.
Public exhibitions of the plans have been organised and the details of the scheme can also be seen at Merseytravel's Hatton Garden offices and on the website.
Line Two should be completed by 2008.
