Electric shock death 'accidental'
Oriel Road railway station
Staff could not see the platform, the inquest heard
An eight-year-old boy was killed after he accepted a dare by older boys to cross a railway line, an inquest heard.

The hearing was told that Stephen Nesbitt, of Bootle, Merseyside was electrocuted after he jumped off a railway platform onto the live track.

Stephen, who had learning difficulties, received a 750 volt shock and later died from his injuries in hospital.

The jury at South Sefton Coroners Court in Merseyside returned a verdict of accidental death.

Merseyrail safety director Lesley Cusick had earlier told the hearing there was no local monitoring of CCTV at Oriel Road Station.

The position of the booking office also meant staff could not see the platform and were unaware of any problems there.
