Strike fear at Liverpool's airport
John Lennon Airport
Staff are proposing to strike at John Lennon Airport
Air passengers could be hit by strike action because of a dispute involving baggage handlers at Liverpool's John Lennon Airport.

Talks have failed to resolve issues over pay and airport managers say they have been told the workers will now be balloted for industrial action.

The airport says it is looking at contingency plans should a strike take place.

The airport employs 120 baggage handlers but says it needs to cut costs to remain competitive.

The workers' union - the GMB - says it is unacceptable that a quarter of staff are being asked to accept a 40% wage cut.

But management say the proposals would mean some staff would receive wage increases and the creation of 30 extra jobs.
