Record month for airport
Liverpool John Lennon Airport
The airport has benefited from the number of budget flights it offers
Liverpool John Lennon Airport is celebrating a record-breaking month for passenger figures.

More than 327,000 people flew through the Speke terminal during August.

The passenger figures smashed all previous records and were up by 7.5% on the same month in 2002.

The airport says the figures show it is one of the fastest growing airports in Europe.

It has benefited mainly from the large number of budget flights using Liverpool as a base, with both Easyjet and Ryanair flying from the airport.

The airport says that if passenger growth continues it expects 3.2m people will have used the airport by the end of the 2003.
