Park 'will create 1,000 jobs'
Liverpool John Lennon Airport
The development will be next to Liverpool aiport
A proposed entertainment park in Merseyside would create 1,000 jobs, say developers.

The plan was unveiled on Friday by Peel Holdings, owners of John Lennon Airport, at Speke.

It would be developed on land next to the site of the airport and include hotels and a multiplex cinema.

Called "Wings", the park would also boast a bowling alley, the company said.

Roger Wheeldon, development manager for the company, said the park would be of economic benefit to south Liverpool.

We are talking to a number of operators, so it could be open by 2005

He told BBC Radio Merseyside: "We're aiming for a modern entertainment park.

"There are some similar schemes in the city, but nothing particularly modern and nothing in the south of the city."

He said with cinema attendances at a "30-year high", it would attract a large number of people.

Mr Wheeldon said: "The site is very large, with a large number of users and the hours it operates could extend over seven days a week and create about 1,000 jobs."

The site has outline planning consent and the company said it did not believe the proposal would be opposed.

"We're in the market at the moment, we are talking to a number of operators...so it could be open by 2005," said Mr Wheeldon.
