One of the largest gay and lesbian festivals in Europe kicks off on Friday with a multi-sports tournament as part of this year's celebrations. PrideGames 2005 is being held as part of the 10-day Manchester Pride festival in the city and ends on Sunday.
The programme includes swimming, water polo, football, tennis and basketball.
The event has been organised by sports groups across Greater Manchester and is supported by the European Gay and Lesbian Sports Federation.
Homophobia debate
The Amateur Swimming Association and Manchester FA are also supporting the tournament.
The festival held sporting events at last year's Pride but this is the first year it comes together as a tournament.
Festival-goers will also be holding a debate on homophobia in sport.
The festival includes its carnival parade on 27 August, a film festival and the first chance to see a lesbian and gay heritage trail in Manchester.
