One of the largest gay and lesbian festivals in Europe is staging a multi-sports tournament as part of this year's celebrations. PrideGames 2005 is being held as part of the 10-day Manchester Pride festival in the city in August.
The programme includes swimming, water polo, football, tennis and basketball.
The event has been organised by sports groups across Greater Manchester and is supported by the European Gay and Lesbian Sports Federation.
The Amateur Swimming Association and Manchester FA are also supporting the tournament.
Colin Moore, Social Inclusion Project Officer from Manchester Football Association, said: "Manchester FA are delighted to be involved in the 2005 Pride Games. "We believe that our current football development programme offers opportunities for all, regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexuality or background.
"The Pride Games is a great example of diversity, inclusion and fun and we look forward to developing a tangible and sustainable relationship with the LGBT football community across Greater Manchester."
Pride Games organiser Trevor Burchick said the event was a "fantastic addition" to the festival.
"I think this will be a great opportunity for the North West's gay sports community to come out and show their Pride, while having fun doing what we all enjoy - playing our sport!"
The festival held sporting events at last year's Pride but this is the first year it comes together as a tournament.
